'73 Association Membership: 55%CAPT Bud Schneeweis After Pat Schuck finished berating me, he included an update. Here it is: "I'm at Tampa Catholic HS teaching Algebra and coaching girls basketball. I like HS better than Middle School. HS kids can actually put two thoughts together, which is not a trait of most Middle school scholars. Steve Tenchard wants to come [to the reunion] this year so add him to the list. I'll forward stuff to him. Thinking of working with/for Goose this summer in the Gulf of Mexico doing some job where I don't have to make any decisions, eat for free, and hopefully there is a cool brewsky on the platform somewhere (shouldn't have left A/D ed.). Going to try to get job at the Buc training camp, too. Washing Sapp's BMW. "Was proud to see Coach Loy becoming the Comdt. Tell him to watch those intems (Ensigns)! "Looking forward to seeing you guys this fall. I figure as long as there is cold beer at the reunion and a few hots and a cot, 95% of us will be happy." Speaking of the 25th, anyone want to see more of New England in conjunction with reunion activities? Willie Clark has graciously offered to open his base and home on Cape Cod to '73ers attending the reunion. As CO of the Air Station, Willie manages the Coast Guard facilities on the Cape. There are recreational homes and other rooms available at the Air Station for use by anyone who plans to come to the area early. Willie offered to sponsor a class golf tournament on Thursday, 10 September (a warm-up for the reunion golf tourney the next day) at the base's golf course. He'll host a BBQ at his quarters that night. On Friday, reunion tournament golfers can car pool to the alumni tournament while spouses and non-golfers car pool to the New London area hotels. There is a lot to see on the Cape. Willie promises to provide information on ferries to Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket for spouses and others that don't want to play golf. Any takers should let Willie know their plans, and he'll set aside rooms. He's at RWILLIEC@aol.com. If the rooms fill up, he'll provide local room rates and information. More to follow. Another reunion update: the Friday night activity will be a get together at Stonington Lodge. Thanks to Tom Gunther for setting that up. I've never been there but hear it's great. Bill Paulick dropped me a line (address c/o Juneau Brass and Winds, 9550 Moraine Way, Juneau, AK 99801-8707. Phone is (907) 789-0777; e-mails are Bill-Paulick@commerce.state.ak.us or hornman@ptialaska.net). Bill works for the Alaska Department of Commerce and Economic Development, and seems to be living large in our largest state. Wife Karen works for the Department of Environmental Conversation. Daughter Kristina (age 8) is into piano and fishing, and is leaming the Russian language. New kitten Barnacle Belle terrorizes the family dog. Meanwhile, Bill offered to host all who cruise on MIV Galaxy this summer. Everyone remembers that Galaxy cruises Alaska's Inside Passage. When it stops in Juneau, look up Bill. Randy Corrigan, and Vince O'Shea might have to get involved too. Bill says he invested all the $1 bills he received at graduation, and with recent run up in the stock market, he's now able to afford his own boat. It's about the same size as the MIV Galaxy. No, actually it's a 34 foot hybrid racer/cruiser named (what else?) Eagle. Besides the state job, Bill has a music business on the side. After retiring from the state, Bill says he'd like to follow his dream by cruising Southeast Alaska in Eagle, repairing musical instruments, renting homs, playing concerts and teaching music in rural towns and villages. Sounds pretty good Bill. Glad to hear that our investment wasn't in vain. Hope to see you in September. Classnotes from June 1998 - The Bulletin USCGA Alumni Association |
