April Alumni Bulletin Class Notes

Dan and Kathy Rothaupt have taken charge and put together a CGA 25th reunion committee of classmates "from the ‘hood," including Bill Plage, Al Rice, Joe Duncan, Jim and Cathy John (and others I’m sure) to help with the upcoming event. Dan has parceled out assignments and created natural working groups to do some investigation. We appreciate Dan’s Total Quality effort, but remember, this is a class wide event. Most everyone will be asked for ideas and opinions, or asked to do some leg work, or to look for long lost classmates, or whatever. Please do your part to make this a successful event.

What I can report about the 25th homecoming reunion planing follows. We’ve decided that the Mystic area will be the epicenter of ’73 activities. The Mystic Hilton will serve as reunion weekend Headquarters. Up to 25 rooms will be available there, but other nearby hotels should be able to provide less expensive accommodations. Keep in mind that this weekend is the busiest weekend of the season in Southeastern Connecticut, with leaf peepers, college reunions, Native American homecomings, and the like all competing for space. Rooms are had only at a premium. The group is putting together a list of local hotels with their rates. Plan to make your reservations as soon as the information is available.

Reunion weekend activities will include an informal cocktail and hors d’oeuvre gathering Friday night as folks arrive. This will likely be held at the Cadet Stonington Lodge. We’ll have a pre-game tailgate party at CGA Saturday, and recommend the academy’s post game cocktail party. We’re planning the big ’73 event of the weekend as dinner at the Hilton on Saturday night. Finally, we’re considering as finale an informal Sunday brunch event at the Mohegan Sun or similar local dining establishment. If it sounds like a lot of eating and drinking, well, that’s what it is. Details will follow, and plans are very fluid right now.

Speaking of details, and spreading the word, Bill Barker has offered his web site as a reference point for disseminating reunion news. His URL is "http://barkerville.net/cga73" without the quotation marks. Check it out from time to time to stay informed. Thanks, Bill.
